La Federazione Italiana Rugby informa che il Commissario Tecnico della Squadra Nazionale Maschile Gonzalo Quesada è apparso oggi a Perth in udienza di fronte a un panel indipendente per affrontare il procedimento disciplinare successivo alle due settimane di squalifica proposte da World Rugby per le dichiarazioni rilasciate nel post-partita di Nuova Zelanda v Italia. 

Dopo aver esaminato le memorie presentate da Quesada il panel – presi in considerazione tutti gli aspetti e le attenuanti del caso – ha ritenuto appropriato ridurre la sanzione a una sola partita.

Il CT Gonzalo Quesada, a conclusione del procedimento, ha rilasciato la seguente nota: “Le mie dichiarazioni sono state fatte nell’emozione del momento, quando i miei pensieri erano rivolti solo ai miei giocatori ed al rammarico che stavano provando dopo un test-match tanto intenso come quello contro la Nuova Zelanda. Questo spiega la mia reazione, ma non la scusa. Mi sono scusato privatamente con Luc Ramos e voglio farlo pubblicamente: è un arbitro che merita di dirigere a questo livello ed ho il massimo rispetto per lui così come per tutti gli ufficiali di gara. Le discussioni relative all’arbitraggio dovrebbero svolgersi nei luoghi appropriati, e non in pubblico: le parole di noi allenatori e dei giocatori hanno un peso e possono contribuire a critiche o abusi nei confronti degli arbitri, in particolare sui social media, e mi dispiace profondamente se le mie dichiarazioni hanno avuto un ruolo in questo. Nel corso della mia carriera, come giocatore prima e oggi come allenatore, ho sempre cercato di rappresentare i valori del nostro sport con rispetto, integrità e umiltà e resto pienamente impegnato a farlo”.

The Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) informs that Italy Men’s Team Head Coach Gonzalo Quesada appeared today in Perth for a hearing before an independent panel to address the disciplinary proceedings following the two-week suspension proposed by World Rugby for statements made in the post-match of New Zealand v Italy.

After examining the submissions presented by Quesada, and having taken into account all aspects and mitigating factors of the case, the panel deemed it appropriate to reduce the sanction to a single match.

At the conclusion of the proceedings, Head Coach Gonzalo Quesada issued the following statement: ““My comments were made in the heat of the moment, when my thoughts were solely with my players and the disappointment they were feeling after such an intense Test match against New Zealand. While that explains my reaction, it does not excuse it. I apologised privately to Luc Ramos, and I want to reiterate that apology publicly. He is a referee who fully deserves to officiate at this level, and I have the utmost respect for him, as well as for all match officials. Discussions regarding refereeing should take place through the appropriate channels, not in public. The words of coaches and players carry weight and can contribute to criticism or abuse of referees, particularly on social media, and I deeply regret that my comments may have contributed to that. Throughout my career, first as a player and today as a coach, I have always sought to represent the values of our sport with respect, integrity and humility, and I remain fully committed to doing so“
